Susah Ke Belajar Law? Kenapa Ambil Law?

                                              "Kenapa ambil law?",
"Kena banyak menghafal ke?" and more.

Hope this will help to ease your mind and heart on what course to choose.

Haha. Aku bagi contoh ye. Dulu masa kecil, kita nak belajar matematik tambah tolak semua tu struggle ya amat rasa nak nangis bila tak dapat buat, kena marah pulak tu dengan cikgu. Tapi after a few practices and hard work, semua tu petik jari je bila buat kan? Macam tu jugaklah bila kau belajar law ni.

Image result for rome does not build in one day

Minat pun kena tanam bila belajar law ni. Sebab dorang ni special sikit, so layan pun kena special jugak, hehe.

Q: Kenapa ambil law?
Dah berbuih telinga dengar soalan ni! Lecturer selalu tanya soalan ni bila first day class masa sesi suai kenal. Percayalah, majoriti pelajar undang undang ni akan cakap ambil law sebab parents ku gagahi jua. Kononnya anak soleh dan solehah lah dengar cakap parents. Hm biasalah tu kan, remaja sekarang kebanyakannya tak tahu dan clueless nak jadi apa bila dah besar nanti. Doktor, cikgu, polis tu semua general punya jawapan. Bosan.

Personally, aku ambil law sebab parents aku suruh. Sama macam 90% kawan aku yang lain, haha. The unambitious squad :p

Q: Law ni banyak menghafal ke?
Ya dan tidak. Kalau kau belajar law dengan hanya menghafal je, struggle lah engkau bila exam nanti. Menghafal ni short term memory tau. So ilmu tu tak kekal lama dalam otak kalau kau hafal je. The key to study law is by understanding.

Ok sampai sini jelah dulu. If ada apa-apa nak tanya, just comment ok? Thank you for reading! ;)

What It's Like? Asasi Undang-Undang in UITM Dengkil Part III)

quotes, love, and movie image

As I wrote this, it has been more than one month I have left Dengkil for good. Goodbye Dengkil for all the good and bad memories, I appreciate it so much. The #LangitDengkil was something that I will cherish until the end of my life. The food in Anjung was so nice. Shout to Nasi Lemak Hijau, Nasi Ayam Penyet, Shawarma, Tomyam at Lengkuas and many more. I wish I can bring all the cooks in Dengkil to UiTM Shah Alam. Sigh.

2nd Semester in Dengkil was so much better than the first one. I enjoyed it better cause there were so many cuti!! Lol. I often went back home. Nothing beats our home sweet home :P

So how its like to study Law after going through two semesters (12 months/1 year altogether)?

I would say it became easy and easier after you study and know all the basics regarding laws. I could say that I used to know nothing about law. I don't even know the existence of Federal Constitution although I got an A for Sejarah in SPM, haha not sure if I should be proud of this..

I used to 'menboong' or have a mental breakdown in class as I was so clueless when the lecturers lectured us about the legal research, laws philosophy etc. I used to doze off during class too zzZz. I was a bad student BUT then I tried my best to not sleep in class and I DID. How? Sit at the front of the class, make sure you can see and speak to your lecturers, and the lecturers can also see and speak to you in a very short distance. OF course you won't dare to sleep when the lecturer is just right in front of you, right? So, fear does help ;) You will also listen and study better this way as you will focus more on what your lecturer said.

What are the subjects for 2nd semester?

1. LAW039 - Introduction to Social Psychology and Criminology

This is an interesting subject as you will study the sociological factor of humans behavior in psychological terms. For example, how to detect lies, love styles, the attitude of people and more. The exam was quite hard because what we study in the class and what actually came up in the exam paper were 90% different. However, do not worry. Just make sure to do the past year exam questions (PYQ) then surely you can ace the exam! Ask your psychology lecturer to review the past year exam papers together in order to get the right answers for all questions.

Credit Hour: 4

2. LAW037 - Introduction to Law II

I love this subject! It is related to Malaysian Legal System and it is quite easy as the basics of it we have already learnt in 1st semesters. Some of the subjects are Adversarial and Inquisitorial System, Sources of Law, Classification of Law and Judicial (Courts) System.

Credit Hour: 4

3. LAW087 - Introduction to Law III

A love-hate subject. A subject that some people hate and is possible to fail. In this subject, you will learn about the contract (offer, acceptance etc), the law of tort (assault, battery, false imprisonment, trespass) and criminal law. This subject needs an extra attention as it can be too much for some people. Do not ever skip the class, you will learn a lot from the lecturer that can't be found in lecture notes which is essential for the test and exam.

Credit Hour: 4

4. LAW088 - Contemporary Legal & Global Issues

Depends on your lecturer, this can be a very exciting subject to learn or a boring one. Mostly about World War I & II, state sovereignty (related to Israel & Palestine), terrorism, human rights and more. Quite easy when you have a handful of knowledge regarding what happened, is happening, will happen in the world.

Credit Hour: 4

5. ECO099 - Economic Issues and Problems

Banyak kira-kira. Who said future lawyers tak payah belajar tambah, tolak semua tu dah? You all kena tipu! KAHKAHKAH. Sorry for those yang ambil law sebab nak cau cincau dari matematik haha you just can't. In this subject, its not as hard as it sounds. Just make sure you bring your calculator and some food cause this class is 3 HOURS STRAIGHT. Trust me, your stomach will produce various type of sounds/songs during the class. Last time I heard mine its Despacito.

Credit Hour: 3

6. ELC092 - Communicative Skills for Foundation Studies

Sir Luthfi! We got Sir Luthfi, the hottest, the nicest and the handsomest lecturer in UiTM Dengkil to teach this subject. Do not meng-gatal with him as he already married, no longer single :p SO, too many talking to do in this class. There are must-do-things such as persuasive speech, forum and lastly, debate. Nerve-wrecking.

Credit Hour: 3

7. ELC093 - Academic Writing for Foundation Studies

In contrast with ELC092, this subject requires you to write, write and write. Boring but its worth it, especially for those who want to 'asah' their English writing skills.

Credit Hour: 3

8. CTU086/IDA086 - Asas-asas Syariah/Pengantar Undang-undang Islam

Credit Hour: 2

So, overall there are 8 subjects for the 2nd semester compared to 7 subjects for the 1st semester. Some people said the first semester is easier but some also said the latter is easier. However, in my humble opinion, the 2nd semester was indeed easier because I achieved better results for it and I already learnt all the basics in 1st semester which made me more confident and not so clueless when continuing the 2nd semester. I became more confident to study Law after getting good results. Therefore, I hope you, lovelies, will never lose hope. You all are strong creatures and this is just the beginning. Study well and goood luck :] Thank you for reading!

What It's Like? Asasi Undang-Undang in UITM Dengkil (Part II)

Preparing for a long term 'getaway' from home can be a pain in the ass before masuk alam universiti ni. Lagi lagi for those yang tak pernah duduk asrama, yang first time duduk jauh dari parents, like me. Its okay, tak seram mana pun. Still boleh survive and masih bernyawa. So, here we start;

Necessary items that you should bring:
  1. Dokumen maklumat peribadi (copy of your IC and parents' etc)
  2. Pakaian secukupnya
  3. Bantal, sarung tilam etc (uitm tak sediakan bantal so bawa sendiri)
  4. Barang toilet such as ubat gigi, sabun etc
  5. Baldi for baju kotor
  6. Sabun basuh baju / Detergent
  7. Hanger!! (Forgot to bring this when I first came!)
  8. Alat tulis
  9. Laptop (2nd month dah start guna)
  10. Cerek air
  11. Seterika
  12. Telekung/Kopiah & Al-Quran
  13. Kasut sukan
  14. Makanan or kudap-kudapan
Thats all i guess.

Attire

For law students, you can wear whatever you want asalkan nampak sopan dan sedap mata memandang kecuali hari Isnin, Rabu and Jumaat. For girls, as I am a girl too, hari Isnin memang wajib pakai baju kurung. Meanwhile for guys wajib pakai baju kemeja. Yang penting berkolar. Any colour.
Hari Rabu wajib pakai baju hitam putih, black and white or so called B&W. Not necessarily baju kurung je. You can still wear pants, blouse or shirts as long as the colour matches. Jubah also can!
Hari Jumaat - baju kurung day! Any colour can.
Penggunaan blazer/coat masa semester 1 memang tiada rasanya tapi why not kalau nak beli? Prepare awal gitu.

Transport/Vehicle
Students dibenarkan bawa kereta tapi kena parking dekat luar or depan UITM tapi don't worry, dekat je. Not sure if pekeliling yang membenarkan students utk bawa kereta masuk uitm dah keluar ke belum but to be safe, parking je dekat luar or PoBan (nickname for Polis Bantuan) will hunt you down surely. If takde kereta, Grab and Uber are soooo available in Dengkil. Jangan keluar sorang sorang pulak. Rugi. Kalau nak drive sendiri, perkhidmatan sewa kereta pun ada!

Allowance
Pelajar program asasi or foundation uitm akan diberikan elaun sebanyak RM1900+ untuk semester pertama sekali gus. Bukan berperingkat mengikut bulan. Easier said than done, lol duit tidak datang bergolek. Nak dapat elaun ini kena mohon dulu. Dan proses permohonan elaun dkt KPT ni agak rumit sbb kena print, cop, tandatangan bagai. During my batch, 2 bulan lebih after masuk UiTM baru dapat duit elaun tu. Lambat, kan? Btw first things first, before masuk U, make sure dah daftar akaun Bank Islam dkt mana-mana cawangan Bank Islam berdekatan. Then, rajinkan diri check laman web KPT then tunggu diorang update dah boleh mohon elaun ke tak. Kalau permohonan dah dibuka, ikut langkah-langkah yang sepatutnya (jangan risau, step by step dorang bgitau macam mana nak buat nnti) macam print surat tawaran etc. InshaaAllah masa MDS, your seniors will brief you about this.

Subject(s)
7 subjects for the first semester in Asasi Undang-Undang. Every subject is taught in English except for CTU038. Slides or notes are used in class.

a) CSC134 (COMPUTER AND INFORMATION PROCESSING)
A tricky subject as it mainly depends on whether you like this kind of computer technology related subject or not. Banyak gila slides! Tebal. Buku (Discovering Computers) pun boleh tahan tebal. During my batch, there were some that failed this subject, unfortunately. I usually slept during this subject sebab tak minat sangat and I thought its easy but its not. Luckily still manage to get an A during finals tho!
Difficulty Level: 3.5/5

b) CTU085 (ISLAMIC WORLD VIEW)
Islamic related subject. For Sem 1 kena hafal Surah Al-Mulk ayat 1-15. Assignment kena buat majalah and then kena present. Soalan banyak KBAT so senang jugak lah nak goreng.
Pesanan ikhlas drpd saya, tahanlah diri anda sebaik mungkin daripada perasaan mengantuk dan cubaan tidur. Syaitonnirrojim memang tak dinafikan banyak time subjek ni.
Difficulty Level: 3/5

c) ELC080 (ENGLISH FOR FOUNDATION STUDIES I)
Preparation for MUET. It has four elements which are Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing. Most lecturers use this book in class and its available in any bookstores. Image result for buku muet
Difficulty Level: 3/5

d) ELC091 (CRITICAL READING AND REASONING FOR FOUNDATION STUDIES)
A confusing subject. Even lecturers had quite a tough moment to teach students this subject. However, just use the book provided by the lecturers soon. Had to find articles etc. There'll be forbate (forum + debate) in class for carry marks. Nerve-wracking.
Difficulty Level: 3.5/5

e) LAW012 ( INTRODUCTION TO LAW I )
The actual or real or relevant subject related to Law. Discussing what is law, the relation of law with morality, justice, freedom, society etc. Tons of philosophers or scholars' name such as Roscoe Pound, HLA Hart etc. Lecturers loved to ask and discuss about the newest issue in class. This book is needed;

Difficulty Level: 4/5

f) LAW016 (INTRODUCTION TO MALAYSIAN SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS)
Basically studying history but more specifically in Engliiiissssshhhhh. Need to remember lots of Article, not 'article'. You will get what I mean soon ;) Federal Constitution is a must! Also available in book stores.

Difficulty Level: 3.5/5

j) LAW038 (LEGAL RESEARCH AND INFORMATION PROCESSING SKILLS)
Enhance your research or seeking information in library skills. Ways on how to use UiTM web to find law articles, provisions, cases and more. How to cite reading materials in MLA or APA. Do exercise using PYQ to get a grip on citing materials.
Difficulty Level: 3/5

Kesimpulannya, tiada yang mudah dalam dunia ini. Tapi bila kita dah get used to it, it will be easier. Just like when we were still a kid, learning ABC and numbers. It used to be very hard during that age, right? Hence, just keep going, study hard smart. Lastly, hard work never betrays you. Hmm, should I write about how to get dean's list 3.5 pointer and above?

What It's Like? Asasi Undang-Undang in UITM Dengkil (Part I)

Time does fly so fast, huh?  I still remember when the time ticked very slowly while waiting for UPU results to come out last year. So, yesterday, which is 14 May or today, 15 May, I heard the UPU results for batch 99' kids has come out already! One year already passed?! Well, well, well, congratulations for those who got what they aimed for and happy 'holiday' for those who didn't get any lol sorry for saying this but hey, just enjoy the remaining days, by working or sleeping, just do whatever you want. No need to be sad, to be honest. Yang dapat awal awal ni pun they need to go through MDS or so called Majlis Destini Siswa for 1 week tak silap. If you get nice seniors then lucky you, but if you don't.. Just laugh out loud. But still, kena nyanyi and hafal lagu UiTM. Buat jadi alarm henfon pun bagus jugak.

I guess its safe enough to say that UiTM Dengkil is quite well known among Twitter users, am I right? #DengkilPerform #DengkilJeAdaLangit anyone? Keep on with the hashtag, guys. Its lit! Do not feel scared or ashamed to use it, soon-to-be law students in UiTM Dengkil because I gotta admit that Dengkil does have beautiful sceneries especially the skies during Maghrib or dawn. In the morning especially you can look up in the sky and see aeroplanes and birds flying around! Beautiful.

Enough with the intro, lets talk about the actual topic that I want to emphasize for new students, what its like in Semester 1: Asasi Undang-Undang. (PI005)

Culture shock!

You heard me. People said, university life and school life are different. Its true. Way too different. In university you have to be independent, no such thing like cikgu suap lah etc. In university too, you will be missing your school teachers lol because you just realize that your school teachers are nice af. They help you in any way they can. Sometimes, they are the one who come to you first, to lend their hands. Meanwhile in university, your lecturers won't help you unless you help yourself first. Do everything by your own. And.. they will say what I just said to you guys. So, whatever it is, do appreciate your teachers or lecturers.

Housemates, Roommate and Classmates. Kalau tak, just go through it and keep calm. But firstly,  jangan pentingkan diri sendiri and be nice. InshaaAllah everything will be okay. Be positive. Yang willing to be. Silap pilih, padan lah muka. Ai kenot help.

Actually, this is not what I planned to talk about 😂 Ingat nak cakap pasal subjek, attire semua tu je.  Ingat nak straight to the point tapi last last melencong cakap pasal benda yang tak penting, haha. So, there will be the another part for this after this! Part 2.
